00SamuraiCalibur summary

Calibur Samurai (SamuraiCalibur by Takara Tomy) is a 36 g BX Blade, released in Japan on August 9, 2025.

SamuraiCalibur was heavily overshadowed at launch—outclassed in attack by SharkScale and in defense by Blast, both of which had immediate meta impact. Even in the anime, it had a brief appearance and quickly faded into obscurity.

However, once its correct playstyle is understood, it becomes a solid and fairly consistent evasive defender with surprise attacks. It’s a risky archetype: it often wins by small margins and is vulnerable to high-value finishes from the opponent. Still, players who enjoy this style can get meaningful results from it.

Interestingly, both Samurai Blades focus on defense and wear. SamuraiSaber is more versatile overall, but SamuraiCalibur offers far more satisfying and impactful surprise hits. It’s not a Blade for everyone—but in patient, precise hands, it’s stronger than it looks.

01Mythology

SamuraiCalibur is based on the samurai archetype and the legendary sword Calibur, embedded in stone. More than just a weapon, the sword symbolized political authority: whoever pulled it free was deemed worthy to rule.

02Description

At first glance, SamuraiCalibur appears to have a diamond-shaped outline, but this is deceptive. Its lower section is actually close to a perfect circle, while the illusion comes from two long, parallel blades protruding from the top. These are connected by a very subtle slope, and at the front—representing the sword’s hilt—a small rounded protrusion stands out.

The blade edges themselves barely extend outward, forming a very discreet straight line along the top, while the rest of the perimeter is notably smooth. Its weight is above average, but when viewed from underneath, the structure is mostly hollow, with very little plastic and most of the metal concentrated in the upper shell.

This results in a slightly elevated center of gravity compared to most BX Blades. Additionally, one side carries slightly more metal than the other, which can cause imbalance and wobbling if the ratchet is not properly aligned. Correct alignment is crucial—otherwise, its stamina drops sharply.

03Performance

The key to understanding SamuraiCalibur is to stop thinking of the swords as its “true” shape. In practice, it behaves much more like GhostCircle, but heavier and with a few aggressive contact points that allow for surprise hits.

Its entire lower perimeter is extremely smooth and rounded. The only parts capable of delivering strong hits are the sword hilt, which can produce solid Smash Attack, and the straight upper section, whose ridges can apply noticeable wear. However, these contact points are not very exposed, making its offensive consistency unreliable. As a result, full attack builds are not its strength.

Using it defensively at higher height so opponents only hit the smooth underside doesn’t work either. Its elevated center of gravity makes it very easy to knock out. Lowering it for stability exposes the aggressive points, which hurts stamina too much. For this reason, fully stationary defense setups are also ineffective.

Counterattack setups with Bits like Point suffer the same issue: they sit at movement extremes that SamuraiCalibur simply doesn’t benefit from.

Where SamuraiCalibur truly shines is evasive defense, very similar to GhostCircle. The difference is that SamuraiCalibur has more weight and actual contact points capable of dealing early damage. Its ideal strategy is to start the match with a semi-aggressive, tilted launch, using the swords to wear down the opponent or land a critical hit with the hilt. After that, it naturally straightens up and begins circling the opponent, defending with its smooth shape and becoming difficult to hit thanks to its compact size.

That said, its stamina is not outstanding. Unlike GhostCircle, which pushed its weight outward and had almost no recoil, SamuraiCalibur keeps its mass more centralized and carries inherent recoil. This means it heavily depends on the initial damage it can inflict. Semi-aggressive Bits that allow early engagement while keeping it away from the stadium edges are essential. Ratchets like 7 help with stability, while 1 can allow rebound plays through stadium pockets.

It can also take advantage of small Bits to get pushed intentionally, breaking the opponent’s attack rhythm. These setups work best at mid to low heights, reducing KO risk. Heights above 70 are not recommended—if the swords stop making contact, SamuraiCalibur lacks the stamina to carry the rest of the match.

Its biggest weakness is pure stamina Blades, which it cannot outspin or push effectively. Against them, it must rely on early hits or rare critical impacts for limited win chances.

One notable advantage: its small, smooth shape makes it very difficult for left-spin Beys to equalize energy against it, making SamuraiCalibur a surprisingly strong counter option in those matchups.

04Ways to use it

Smash Attack + Burst Pressure + Evasive Defense

Using semi-aggressive Bits, aim for early impacts with the upper section to deal damage or score a critical hit, then transition into evasive movement to survive on stamina. Very effective against heavy aggressive Blades.

Counter Defense + Evasive Defense

With easy-moving Bits like Wedge or Orb, receive hits while tilted to cause early wear, then rebound or disengage to disrupt the opponent’s attack flow and aim for a stamina win.

05Base combo

SamuraiCalibur 6-70M

An extremely inconsistent combo. Merge is excessively tall, and paired with a 70 ratchet places the Blade far outside its optimal range. The Bit wears quickly, rebounds too much, and completely masks SamuraiCalibur’s real strengths. Easily one of the worst stock combos in the system.

06Combos

1
SamuraiCalibur 7-60E

Elevate allows an early tilted attack followed by an upright defensive stance. Its smooth movement perfectly disrupts the opponent’s rhythm, enabling attacks, evasion, and even energy equalization against left-spin Beys. Very strong, but with a high burst risk.

2
SamuraiCalibur 1-70W

Designed to take frontal hits, apply early wear, then rebound or disengage. Ratchet 1 helps recover from stadium pockets and reduces the risk of full knockouts.
