00SamuraiSaber summary

Saber Samurai (SamuraiSaber by Takara Tomy) is a 36.1 g UX Blade, released in Japan on November 2, 2024.

SamuraiSaber is calm and patient, just like a true samurai. It doesn’t aim to finish battles with a single decisive slash, but rather to extend them, exhaust the opponent, and outlast them.

It’s a quiet and underrated Blade that rarely gets attention, yet its defensive versatility and ability to challenge multiple competitive playstyles mean it should never be underestimated or forgotten.

01Mythology

Inspired by the samurai, elite and disciplined warriors of feudal Japan. In addition to their katana, they carried a secondary short sword called a wakizashi. Losing this smaller blade was considered an even greater dishonor than losing the main katana itself.

02Description

SamuraiSaber is made up of two long katana-shaped sections, creating a semi-oval silhouette. On the front, it features a movable metal wing that expands outward thanks to centrifugal force during rotation.

Most of the metal is concentrated on the top of the Blade, while the bottom is almost entirely a very smoothed plastic layer. From the side, the swords have a gentle slope on the upper area, and behind the movable wing there’s a small hook that does not function as a meaningful contact point.

03Performance

Despite being labeled as an Attack Blade, its outer shape is extremely rounded, and its hits are not particularly strong, making fully aggressive combos feel kind of pointless.

Where it truly shines is in defense and impact absorption. The lower plastic is so smooth that even after hundreds of battles it shows barely any damage, absorbing hits in a super efficient way. Because of this, it performs especially well at medium heights like 60 or 70, where the plastic becomes the main contact point, allowing it to defend with strong consistency.

When tilted, its upper slope can lift and destabilize the opponent, helping break their attack rhythm before straightening itself and continuing to tank hits with the plastic. The plastic shape also redirects impacts naturally, protecting the Ratchet extremely well and giving it great burst resistance, especially against low attackers. This makes it a mega solid defensive option.

On top of that, the movable wing creates a Barrage Attack effect, delivering constant small hits that gradually drain the opponent’s stamina. Its raw stamina is nothing special, so proper balancing is key to extend spin time and fully take advantage of both its defense and wear-down potential.

One major drawback is its high center of gravity due to the metal being placed up top. This makes it vulnerable to knockouts and loss of control on aggressive Bits. It also struggles badly against round pure stamina Beys, since the wear-down is often not enough and it lacks the weight to push them effectively.

That said, the smooth lower shape makes it an excellent counter to Dragoon and other left-spin Beys. Since it offers almost nothing for them to latch onto, it actively disrupts equalization. Its rear spikes can even cause Dragoon to transfer more energy than it receives, allowing SamuraiSaber to win the final spin, even on flatter Bits.

Because of this, it can counter aggressive competitive combos, equalization builds, and occasionally wear down stationary setups. This gives it strong versatility against many current meta threats. Its main issue is scoring: it often wins rounds by a single point, while losses tend to be bigger, making matches harder to close. Still, in direct one-on-one battles, it absolutely puts up a fight.

04Ways to use it

Pure Defense

Launch slightly tilted to deflect attacks with the upper slope, then let it straighten to absorb hits with the plastic. Very effective against aggressive Beys when properly balanced.

Barrage Attack

On semi-aggressive or stationary Bits, it focuses on draining the opponent through constant, repeated contact.

Counter Attack

Not its specialty, but its strong defense and decent stamina let it conserve energy after being pushed, evade, and occasionally strike back.

05Base combo

SamuraiSaber 2-70L

The height works, but Ratchet 2 is far too risky for a defensive Blade. Level can help with wear-down, but its spontaneous movement makes consistency hard to maintain. It ends up being bad at defending and not good at attacking, preventing it from showing its strengths.

06Combos

1
SamuraiSaber 7-60H

A very versatile combo that balances defense, wear-down, and counter potential.

2
SamuraiSaber 0-70T

Focused on pursuit and stamina drain, while maintaining decent endurance and strong defense.

3
SamuraiSaber 1-70P

A balanced setup between stationary defense, evasion, and wear-down. Can adapt well depending on the opponent.

4
SamuraiSaber 9-60E

Optimized for constant stamina drain with good spin time and defensive support. Excellent against left-spin Beys, though more vulnerable to knockouts.
