00DranBrave summary

Courage Dran (DranBrave by Takara Tomy) is a 37.7 g CX Blade, released in Japan on March 29, 2025.

DranBrave is so cheerful and colorful that it makes you want to play it right away. Sadly, the structural limitations of the CX system held it back for a long time.

Fortunately, the arrival of new parts capable of compensating for height and stability has finally made it consistently playable, even if it still falls short of top performers like HoverWyvern, SharkScale, or PhoenixWing, which fill similar roles far more efficiently.

If you enjoy its design and are willing to invest in the right parts, it is finally possible to get solid value out of it. It is not an easy or cheap option, but it can reward the brave Blader who chooses to trust it with intense battles, worthy of a main character fighting for victory.

01Mythology

DranBrave is based on the western dragon, an iconic creature from European mythology, described as massive winged beasts that guarded treasures, ruins, or forbidden lands, symbolizing trials that only the bravest heroes could face.

02Description

This review covers the part Brave

DranBrave is made up of three metallic boomerang-shaped wings with an extremely pronounced curve, creating a straight section in the middle and at the end of each wing. On top of that, they feature a very marked upward slope.

Each wing has small cutouts that, in theory, are meant to generate downward air pressure to increase traction against the stadium floor. However, this effect is basically unnoticeable due to how small the object actually is.

Even though the wings are fairly spaced apart, the plastic layer of the Main Blade completely covers their front. Since this is a relatively small Blade, most Assist Blades end up covering a large portion of its circumference, meaning the lower metal area rarely gets to engage during battle.

03Performance

This review covers the part Brave

The biggest strength of DranBrave is its extremely steep slope, designed to execute pure Upper Attack, with strong potential to lift opponents. On top of that, the straight sections of each wing can deliver solid frontal hits when the Blade is upright, allowing it to switch between Upper and Smash Attack.

The issue is that all these qualities clash with the CX structure. Its tall height is harmful for a Blade that needs to hit from below for Upper Attack to work, and its Smash potential sits even higher. So even when using low Ratchets and Under Bits, DranBrave still ends up taller than a traditional UX or BX, which is rough considering the competitive scene favors mid and low heights.

Luckily, its best contact points are located on the upper area, so it is not as affected by the Assist covering almost all of its lower section. Still, it cannot be ignored that plastic tends to absorb a good part of the impact, reducing how consistently the metal makes direct contact.

Because of this, for DranBrave to work consistently, it is key to compensate for its structural weaknesses:

  • > Choose an Assist Blade that adds weight, stability, and/or reduces height.
  • > A mid-to-low height Ratchet (60 or lower).
  • > Use Bits that allow strong tilting, high traction, and good control.
  • > A Chip with a tight assembly so parts do not feel loose, since this greatly improves impact power.

This is not a Blade meant to decide battles in just a few hits. In fact, it performs better with longer action time, allowing multiple chances to connect with the right contact zone. It benefits from constant movement and steady momentum, but not from erratic or overly aggressive playstyles.

It also shines in stationary combos, where metal Chips increase weight and improve its ability to reflect hits while tilted. That said, this setup requires extra care when choosing the Ratchet and Assist, since the tilt can increase the risk of scraping the stadium floor.

04Ways to use it

This review covers the part Brave

Shield Defense + Upper Attack

In low and heavy combos with high-traction stationary tips. The tilt lets it reflect attacks like a ramp, and when it stands back up, the wings line up for frontal pushes. An extra launch boost can enhance the initial shove. It benefits a lot from a metal Chip.

Upper + Smash Attack (Controlled Movement)

In mid-low combos with flat tips that offer solid control and stamina. It looks for a strong initial tilt to exploit Upper Attack and, if that tilt is lost, take advantage of frontal Smash Attack. Here, a standard Chip usually works better, since it prioritizes inertia and speed.

Counter Attack

Not its ideal role, but with tips like Point it can pull off some interesting counters. The initial tilt allows the opponent’s push to trigger the counter and, when it returns to center, it finishes with Smash Attack.

05Base combo

DranBrave Slash 6-60V

An aggressive combo with some standout moments, but highly inconsistent. The 6-60 is light and does not add stability, while Vortex, despite having good traction, has low stamina and tricky control. This limits the prolonged tilt needed for Upper Attack. In practice, it ends up hitting more with Slash’s plastic than with metal. Not terrible, but nothing special either.

06Combos

1
DranBrave Heavy 7-60J

The most consistent combo. Jolt provides stamina and control, allowing deep tilt without relying on the rail. Heavy improves stability and power, overall letting it use its Upper and Smash Attack more reliably.

2
DranBrave Heavy 3-60LR

A more aggressive and demanding version of the previous one, since it requires more launch precision. It works well, but it is less consistent than the Jolt variant.

3
DranEmperor Wheel 3-60UN

Under Needle compensates for Wheel’s height and allows effective tilting. The plastic layer cushions impacts and helps maintain stability, so it defends laterally while lifting with its Upper, blending attack and defense. Also viable with Heavy for a heavier, more aggressive approach.

4
DranEmperor Heavy 3-60GP

A counter-attack combo. It allows an initial tilt to lift opponents and then take advantage of the Xtreme Dash, where Emperor reduces the risk of losing control. Another option is 1-60 and Point, which offers stronger impact power but comes with a higher risk of the Ratchet scraping the floor.
