00WhaleWave summary
Tide Whale (WhaleWave by Takara Tomy) is a 38.1 g BX Blade, released in Japan on September 14, 2024.
WhaleWave caused a real wave in the competitive scene. Just for its Bit, it became highly sought after, and its Blade proved to be a serious attack threat thanks to its massive weight.
Over time, equally strong and more consistent options like SharkScale have appeared. Still, WhaleWave remains a brutal Blade whose risks are balanced by the power it can unleash.
Ironically, it’s the opposite of SharkScale. One is tall and unstable to embrace chaos, the other is low and stable for consistent attack. Both represent extremes of the attack type, and interestingly, both are used by the same Blader.
So don’t underestimate the whale. It may look clumsy, but if its wave catches you, it will drag you away without mercy.
01Mythology
Based on the whale, one of the largest and heaviest animals to ever exist. Whales communicate through songs that can travel hundreds of miles underwater, making it one of the longest and most complex communication systems in the animal kingdom.
02Description
WhaleWave is made up of five wide divisions shaped like fins. These have an extremely pronounced forward tilt, creating deep wave-like contours on both the upper and lower sides.
Its design leaves the Ratchet completely exposed underneath, and among the BX lineup, it’s one of the heaviest Blades in the system.
03Performance
WhaleWave is not an aerodynamic Blade, so its spin time is mid to low. However, its weight is so high that it makes up for this weakness by letting it hit brutally hard from both above and below.
From the top, it has strong crushing potential. That said, with the Ratchet so exposed, it’s super easy to burst, making tall combos a huge risk.
Hitting from below is where it really gets scary. Its waves and protrusions are extremely pronounced, to the point where they don’t just lift the opponent, they land direct, brutally damaging hits. Thankfully, its weight handles recoil well, making it viable in super aggressive and semi-aggressive attack combos.
It benefits a lot from erratic movement, turning it into a chaotic threat that can crush, lift, or strike from unexpected angles. It’s riskier than options like SharkScale, but its hits are so violent that, in the right hands, it can feel even more intimidating.
Its main weaknesses are low stamina and instability caused by concentrating weight toward the top. This can make it hard to control and vulnerable to knockouts if it gets hit from below. Keeping it at lower heights helps reduce this risk a lot.
04Ways to use it
In low-height combos with aggressive or erratic tips, it looks to strike using the upper waves to deliver devastating hits.
Thanks to its weight and shape, it can crush opponents with massive force. This style is risky but super satisfying, especially with semi-aggressive tips that give it enough movement and stamina.
Using the rail lets it maximize impact power. It can drop from above or clash head-on with huge force. Counter tips like Point allow strong launches without losing too much control.
05Base combo

In theory, this combo aims to crush opponents from above. In practice, it bursts way too easily, and Elevate isn’t ideal for pure attack, so it tends to swim around without landing consistent hits. The height also prevents it from using its best trait, the upper Blade strikes. Performance-wise it’s not impressive, but it’s still worth getting since both the Blade and the Bit are super valuable.
06Combos
Pure attack combo. The rubber friction makes it even more lethal. It takes a lot of practice to control the exact contact point, but its power is overwhelming. Extremely risky due to low stamina.
Extremely chaotic semi-aggressive combo. The erratic behavior of 1 and Kick creates violent rebounds, keeping it at an ideal height to hit from both above and below.
A lower variant of the combo above. TP allows more controlled counters and rebounds while keeping the surprise factor.
Pure attack combo focused on precision. It allows lifting opponents with the upper part of the Blade. Its effectiveness depends entirely on player skill, but its ceiling is massive.
