00Ratchet 5 summary
Ratchet 5 comes in four heights: 5-50, 5-60 (6.5 g), 5-70 (6.8 g), and 5-80 (7.3 g).
Ratchet 5 achieves a great balance between strength, weight, recoil, and stability. For a long time, it was one of the most popular Ratchets due to its weight and stability, although nowadays parts like 6 or 7 can adapt better to certain strategies where 5 is no longer as advantageous.
01Description
A Ratchet with five wide and broad protrusions that are well exposed. Although its exposure level is similar to Ratchet 4, its ends are more closed, generating a more contained angle that reduces the possibility of hooking onto the rival.
Additionally, having less separation between each protrusion and a wider surface, it also decreases the risk of getting stuck, which reduces the recoil compared to 2 and 4.
On the other hand, the bottom of the protrusions is tilted and smoothed out.
02General properties
Thanks to its five extended and evenly distributed protrusions, it offers broad and balanced support along the entire periphery of the Blade. This, combined with its high weight, powers up both stability and impact force.
However, its large size can work against it: by extending so much, it can obstruct important contact points on the Blade and remain super exposed to being hit, especially on very small Blades. Furthermore, the number five doesn't synergize well with all Blades—particularly those with highly marked segmentation—where it can turn out to be more of a hindrance than a help.
On the flip side, Blades with a rounder or more continuous surface, and especially 5-segment ones, take maximum advantage of its qualities. In these cases, it offers excellent performance in defensive and stamina combos. And when it manages to synergize, it is also very useful in attack to increase the force of the hits.
Its protrusions, being smooth underneath, don't brake abruptly when scraping the ground, which helps cushion impacts and better conserve energy.
03Variants by height
- > 5-60 (6.5 g): The most stable; being the lowest it doesn't get in the way of impacts.
- > 5-70 (6.8 g): Slightly more prone to influencing impacts, really good stability.
- > 5-80 (7.3 g): Can complement downforce combos well with the wear generated by its protrusions; among those of this height, it is, alongside 9, one of the hardest to burst.
- > M-85 (10.7 g): It is considerably different, I will talk about it further down.
