00PhoenixRudder summary
Rudder Phoenix (PhoenixRudder by Takara Tomy) is a 34.4 g UX Blade, released in Japan on August 10, 2024.
PhoenixRudder is visually a true masterpiece that perfectly captures the elegance of the phoenix, but in the stadium it often ends up reduced to ashes. It is one of the hardest Blades to find a consistent role for in the current game. Even in equalization, there are much more versatile and equally effective options like ClockMirage.
It is beautiful and has bright moments… but it is also so delicate that many times you feel more like admiring it than launching it. Now you have two good reasons for that: to avoid wearing it down, and because in battle, it simply suffers too much.
01Mythology
Based on the phoenix, a mythical bird associated with rebirth and the eternal cycle. In many cultures, the phoenix does not rise from strength, but from its own destruction: it must burn completely to be reborn, symbolizing sacrifice, resilience, and a return from adversity.
02Description
PhoenixRudder is divided into six segments: three wide ones and three smaller ones, evoking the elegant wings of the bird. It is covered in metallic red paint that, in theory, increases impact friction to deal more damage, although this paint will wear off quickly.
It belongs to the UX line, so it aims to concentrate weight toward the edges to boost centrifugal force, further reinforced by the three central gaps in the smaller segments.
Its sides are rounded, while the top has noticeable irregularities, especially at the front of the wings. The separation between them creates strong contact points.
03Performance
In theory, it is a Stamina Blade; however, its angular momentum is low due to its very small diameter and its thick, low-aerodynamic profile, resulting in an average spin time that is nothing special.
On top of that, a large portion of the metal is concentrated toward the top, raising the center of gravity more than usual and making it noticeably unstable in battle.
This makes it easy to push around and knock out of the stadium, and it also tends to over-tilt and wobble easily, slowing down fast in its final moments even when it looks like it might have the advantage. To make things worse, the Ratchet is very prone to scraping the rail or the floor.
On the upper side, its six contact points can deliver strong surprise hits, sometimes even sending the opponent flying or draining large amounts of energy. The problem is that these hits generate extremely high recoil, hurting PhoenixRudder more than the opponent.
With some luck, these spikes can reflect attacks with violent rebounds when using a tilted launch. You can also force this behavior with more aggressive Bits that aim to hunt the opponent as fast as possible.
Another major weakness is how compact it is, leaving the Ratchet very exposed. Combined with its tendency to tilt, this makes it especially prone to bursting.
Where it truly finds a consistent role is as a counter to left-spin Beys. Its rounded side shape and inward-slanted lower section make it hard for left spins to latch on and equalize energy. At the same time, its six rear spikes receive the opponent’s force, helping it win the final spin.
Outside of that matchup, stationary battles are very unfavorable since it loses easily in spin time. As a pure attacker, it also lacks the shape and weight needed to push heavy Beys effectively, so it struggles in most situations.
04Ways to use it
By lowering its center of gravity and tilting it, it can reflect attacks with strong hits from the top. It is still risky due to bursting and scraping, but it can surprise aggressive Beys thanks to the violent rebounds it creates.
Its most solid role. Equipped with Elevate and launched with good power, it becomes very hard for left-spin Beys to beat it in the final spin.
With low combos and angled launches, it can go wild and try to deal as much damage as possible before going down. The recoil is high, but the goal is to take the opponent with it in the exchange.
05Base combo

An interesting idea on paper. Glide makes it slide more and adds some aggression, while its hook-like shape creates unexpected rebounds. However, it bursts easily and loses a lot of energy from those rebounds. Combined with the 70 height, the instability gets worse, resulting in an inconsistent combo that only shows brief flashes of its potential.
06Combos
A direct counter to left-spin Beys through equalization. It can also go a bit wild against right spins, giving it some extra versatility.
A semi-aggressive combo that looks for intense, chaotic clashes, taking advantage of unexpected rebounds.
A defensive combo that prioritizes stability and tilt to counter attacks. High burst risk, but capable of generating super strong counter hits.
Why does it work this way?
Blader's Path explains it step by step: Bey physics, how to build combos and how to test them.
