00PteraSwing summary

Talon Ptera (PteraSwing by Takara Tomy) is a 34.3 g BX Blade, released on June 1, 2024.

TalonPtera feels more like a skin since it does not significantly improve or worsen the performance of ViperTail. Although today it is not easy to make them shine in the competitive scene against heavier and more versatile options, they remain decent considering they belong to the first waves of the system. In Barrage Attack, they can offer consistent results if used on the correct Bit.

Between one and the other, the choice will depend almost exclusively on which beast you like more: in practical terms, their performance is practically identical. Other ViperTail molds include: Quetzalcoatlus, Shockwave, and Spider-Man.

01Mythology

It is based on a pteranodon, one of the most iconic flying reptiles of the Cretaceous period. Contrary to what many believe, it was not a dinosaur strictly speaking, but a pterosaur. Its huge cranial crest probably helped it stabilize in flight, making it a super efficient aerial predator.

02Description

It is a re-mold of ViperTail, so it shares practically the same structural base with three subtle differences:

  • > The three short divisions no longer protrude at the top; they now appear to integrate more continuously with the main division.
  • > The design incorporates the profile of the pteranodon and the shape of its wings.
  • > The front of its wings has a more smoothed-out slope.

In terms of overall silhouette, it maintains the characteristic concave shape of the original mold, but now features fewer contact points exposed on the top part, while keeping the most important ones.

03Performance

The changes are so slight and the weight so similar that, in practice, both perform almost the same. The most noticeable difference is in the aggressive potential:

ViperTail can wear down rivals slightly more thanks to its greater top irregularities, although that also generates a bit more recoil. TalonPtera, by having less exposure on top, withstands impacts better in stationary combos, though the difference is minimal.

The main edges are kept in Ptera, so it retains the Barrage Attack style with repeated hits that seek to wear down and destabilize the rival over the long term. And although they have some potential to reflect attacks, currently with much heavier Beys, neither of the two manages to stand out in this area anymore as they are easily crushed.

04Ways to use it

Barrage Attack

In low heights (60) with semi-aggressive Bits of continuous movement that allow it to maintain prolonged contact from below to wear down and, occasionally, lift the rival.

05Combos

1
PteraSwing 3-60J

A continuous attack combo with good stamina and tilting capacity, ideal for maintaining constant pressure and being able to destabilize its rivals.

Why does it work this way? Blader's Path explains it step by step: Bey physics, how to build combos and how to test them. See the book
