00BearScratch summary

Savage Bear (BearScratch by Takara Tomy) is a 29.7 g BX Blade, released in July 2024.

BearScratch is a curious bear that can be dangerous; just like RhinoHorn, it is a Bey with way too many deficiencies, but even with those, it can result in unusual battles. We have personally seen how it causes problems for experienced Bladers using meta Beys. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a serious tournament, but if you want to have fun and you like surprises, you can get some mega roars out of your rival when you win with it!

01Mythology

It is based on a bear. Bears possess one of the most developed senses of smell in the animal kingdom: they can detect food from several kilometers away and remember locations for years thanks to their great spatial memory.

02Description

A re-mold of RhinoHorn that shares the same shape with 3 main differences:

  • > It is 3 grams lighter, having less filling underneath, where gaps can be seen between the plastic and the metal.
  • > Its design portrays the head and claws of a bear.
  • > Its profile is sharper, especially in the central hook of each division.

03Performance

In general, it has the same properties and disadvantages as RhinoHorn, so with that in mind, we will focus only on its differences. Being lighter, it accelerates with greater speed and reaches higher velocities, which compensates for its weight and allows it to hit hard with its more pronounced hooks. It also compensates a bit for recoil, since a large part of the impact will result in it being sent flying rather than just slowing its rotation; so when shot away, it can bounce with more intensity or perform more aggressive Xtreme Dashes.

On the contrary, in stationary combos, it remains more exposed to being knocked out and might fail to escape the pockets because it is so small. In this playstyle, RhinoHorn is more reliable. In essence, it works like a faster and more aggressive version of RhinoHorn, but it requires greater power and control in the launch to release its strength. Choosing between one and the other will depend on which animal you like more; if you prefer full chaos, go for the Bear, and if you want something more controlled, go for Rhino.

04Ways to use it

Smash Attack

At maximum power on flat Bits but not too wide so you can find a good balance between power, speed, and control.

Counterattack

With Bits like Point that allow it to be launched at maximum power, it can stay in the center to wait for the rival's impact, or directly go wild.

05Combos

1
BearScratch 4-50J

A combo to be able to launch at maximum strength while maintaining great control.

2
BearScratch 1-60GP

A Counterattack combo to release all its aggressiveness thanks to the rail.

Why does it work this way? Blader's Path explains it step by step: Bey physics, how to build combos and how to test them. See the book
