00Ratchet M-85 summary
Ratchet M-85 weighs 10.7 g.
01Description
Its design is practically identical to the Ratchet 5s; the big difference lies in its "O" type assembly and the internal metal layer, which makes it the heaviest Ratchet in the system so far!
The "O" type assembly does without the internal pressure mechanism, so it only tightens through direct pressure between the Blade and the Ratchet. This makes it more vulnerable to bursting, since it stops gripping the Bit before letting go; however, all Bits fit with the same firmness, allowing you to use defensive and stamina Bits without the risk of them easily popping off.
The metal layer and the weight increase provide mega great stability for its height, which, in theory, would be super valuable. Nevertheless, upon reaching 8.5 mm in height, its protrusions are even more exposed than on 5-80, increasing recoil and reducing part of the benefit that the extra weight provides.
The assembly type also limits its defensive potential, making the advantages of the metal look considerably overshadowed.
Even so, its huge weight gives it considerable offensive potential, ideal for heavy weight, smashing combos that seek powerful impacts from above. It works best with wide and aggressive Blades, capable of mitigating the recoil from the protrusions and taking advantage of the additional mass to hit with force.
It can also be interesting combining it with Low or Under type Bits, which lower the center of gravity and reduce the exposure of the protrusions, helping to compensate for the bursting risk.
Of course, being so heavy, it is more prone to unbalancing the Bey if it is not well aligned, so it requires perfect balance to release its true potential. (Unless you want to go super erratic, which is totally valid!)
Ratchet M-85 is a contradictory piece: a step forward in weight and power, but two steps back in stability and safety. It is curious how you need to carefully compensate it to take advantage of what, in theory, it sought to offer from the start: greater stability in tall combos.
Why does it work this way?
Blader's Path explains it step by step: Bey physics, how to build combos and how to test them.
