00MammothTusk summary

Tusk Mammoth (MammothTusk by Takara Tomy) is a 32 g BX Blade, released on June 1, 2024.

Among re-molds, Tusk Mammoth manages to differentiate itself enough from the original to feel like more than a simple copy. Additionally, it comes included in the Hasbro set along with Dagger and Rush, or in Japan individually with Elevate, so it's likely many Bladers have it in their collection and it is good to know it has decent potential. It won't be the most versatile Blade, but it isn't condemned to the ice age either.

There are other re-molds in Hasbro collaborations which we haven't tested, so this comparison is directly against HellsScythe, but if you want to know them, they are: Megatron and MoffGideon.

01Mythology

It is based on a mammoth. Prehistoric animals that could reach over 4 meters in height and used their curved tusks not only for defense, but also to clear snow and uncover food during the ice ages.

02Description

It is a re-mold of HellsScythe, sharing the same structural base but with three important differences:

  • > It is approximately 0.5 g lighter, as the lower thickness of the scythes is thinner.
  • > It incorporates two tusks between two of the scythes, smoothing out the top part.
  • > Where there were once marked edges, there is now a curve generated by the tusks, forming a smooth hook.

03Performance

Although it is a re-mold, the changes completely modify the strengths of HellsScythe. Its aggressive potential is noticeably reduced by removing the top edges and the irregularities that generated destabilization. The weight distribution also changes: while HellsScythe concentrated mass at the ends thanks to its top gaps and marked edges, granting it good stamina, Tusk Mammoth covers those gaps and places more weight on the top part, reducing both its inertia and spin time.

However, by smoothing its top part, its defensive qualities increase as it has low recoil. In low combos, it can even reach certain Ratchets with its hooks to burst them as a Counterattack from its defense. So for being one of the first Beys of the generation, it maintains a respectable and not at all negligible performance. Although undeniably there are heavier or more aerodynamic options like Blast with Heavy, or even ShelterDrake or Yell Kong that fulfill that playstyle with greater efficiency.

04Ways to use it

Shield Defense

In low combos with Bits that allow it to tilt to deflect attacks and with the potential to reach Ratchets with its tusks.

Evasive Defense

Although it is not its specialty due to its moderate weight and average stamina, it can work by evading very aggressive Beys if it manages to extend the battle.

05Combos

1
MammothTusk 7-60UN

A very low defensive combo seeking maximum stability. It can resist well, although it is not exempt from being knocked out if it receives blunt impacts.

2
MammothTusk 7-60E

An Evasive Defense configuration that allows it to move around the stadium and dodge attacks.

Why does it work this way? Blader's Path explains it step by step: Bey physics, how to build combos and how to test them. See the book
