00CobaltDrake summary

CobaltDrake is a 37.8 g BX Blade, released in Japan in September 2023.

CobaltDrake is as elegant as it is lethal. Its rarity and high price have kept it out of reach for many Bladers, and even those who own it might prefer to keep it as a collector’s piece—and honestly, that’s understandable. But if you manage to get this treasure and give it a chance to be unleashed, its roar will shake the stadium like a true legend.

01Mythology

Based on Seiryu and a direct homage to the original Dragoon. The name “Drake” comes from an ancient term used to describe four-legged, wingless dragons, exactly how the original Dragoon was depicted.

02Description

It’s made up of four wide, slightly angled segments that resemble walls, each with upper reliefs depicting the dragon’s face in the classic Bakuten Bey style. Between them, a pronounced lower triangle is formed, while from the underside there’s a noticeable imbalance in metal distribution, as one wing has more mass. This creates natural instability in its spin. It’s a very heavy Blade, with a metallic blue coating in the original version.

03Performance

The first—and most important—thing is to balance it correctly. Without proper balance, wobble will cut its spin time down to a fraction of its potential. Finding the exact balance point with the Ratchet is critical, since a poor setup drastically reduces spin time and overall performance. Ratchet 1 achieves near-perfect balance, unlocking its full stamina and allowing it to reach spin times comparable to WizardRod.

Once stabilized, CobaltDrake shines thanks to its outstanding weight, which lets it absorb recoil from its aggressive contact points. Combined with its excellent stamina, this makes it extremely versatile—on par with PhoenixWing, but with a slightly more defensive lean. The original blue mold is the heaviest and most efficient; the silver and red versions ended up a bit lighter, which hurts their overall performance.

Its smoothed upper surface lets it deflect attacks easily, tanking hits while conserving energy with great efficiency. In stationary play, it can act like a solid wall—opponents basically bounce off its faces, taking heavy damage in the process.

When used aggressively, those same walls become powerful push points for Smash Attack. If it manages to hit from above, the lower triangle can crush opponents with brutal force. On top of that, its slight angle gives it real Upper Attack potential, lifting rivals with ease.

While it doesn’t have friction points for wear-based play, its high stamina allows it to win long battles by steadily slowing opponents down with each impact. And to top it off, on counter Bits it performs great, unleashing devastating counterattacks by capitalizing on Xtreme Dash momentum.

04Ways to use it

Smash Attack / Down Force / Upper Attack

Aggressive movement at mid heights (60/70) takes full advantage of its mass and shape to deal damage from any angle.

Tank Defense

On stationary Bits, it can absorb hits without moving, or be slightly tilted to deflect attacks and reflect damage back.

Counter Attack

On counter Bits, it looks to convert incoming impacts into powerful counterblows.

Prolonged Stamina

Perfectly balanced, it can extend battles and gradually slow opponents down with its wall-like segments.

05Base combo

CobaltDrake 4-60F

Ratchet 4 fails to properly balance the Blade, causing excessive wobble. On top of that, Flat makes it hard to control, so this isn’t where it shines most—it can be improved a lot. In contrast, the red Cobalt combo with 9-60R comes battle-ready right out of the box.

06Combos

1
CobaltDrake 1-60L

Semi-aggressive combo with constant movement and great stamina.

2
CobaltDrake 1-70H

Stationary Beyblade with strong counterattack and defensive potential thanks to Hexa.

3
CobaltDrake 7-60P

Less erratic, yet still very effective at countering opponents.

4
CobaltDrake 9-60R

Ideal for pure attack; with precision, it becomes an unstoppable wall.

5
CobaltDrake 9-60B

Classic defensive setup, high stamina and lower recoil than 1, offering more safety at the cost of spin time.
