00Bound Spike summary

Bound Spike is a 2 g defense Bit.

Bound Spike is an interesting experiment that shows how much can be done even with the limitations of this system. Although it is chaotic, unstable, and inconsistent, it can offer unpredictable and spectacular moments, with surprise counterattacks in the style of "Drunken Rock Lee". It doesn't have a competitive place, but it brings freshness and fun to those who enjoy trying different things in battle!

01Description

Although it is called Spike, it is completely different in its shape. This Bit has a tiny point in the center of an almost flat circular base. Its most distinctive feature is a hemisphere in the middle of the tube, which allows the Ratchet's arrows to slide slightly, leaving a small compression space that makes the Bit seem to "squish" when dropping and receiving impacts.

02General properties

In theory, this seeks to absorb impacts and reduce energy loss. However, in practice, the constant rubbing between the Ratchet and the Bit generates friction and wobbling, which ends up consuming even more energy and nullifying the supposed benefit of the mechanism.

Furthermore, by protruding the Bit and not remaining firmly fixed, it produces imbalance and erratic movements, drastically reducing spin time and making it mega prone to bursting or being knocked out, especially because of the height it leaves you at when assembled—taller than a High tip, approximately 2mm above standard.

Curiously, this same instability can be used intentionally in heavy combos. On one hand, in low combos when over-tilting them, the mechanism can act like a spring, bouncing and projecting attacks upward; and on the other, in high combos it can smash with quite good effectiveness. Which opens up interesting possibilities for aggressive styles, but being super conscious that it bursts very easily.

The shape of the tip on its own is like "Fusion" in Burst, or "Flat Sharp" in Metal. So when only the tip touches the ground, it should stay centered with good stamina, and if the flat base makes contact, start orbiting slightly around the center, without actually generating real counterattacks. Although its erraticism makes it difficult to see in action.

Why does it work this way? Blader's Path explains it step by step: Bey physics, how to build combos and how to test them. See the book
